Based on the analysis of modern scientific medical literature the authours revealed that its terminology is extremely confusing, disordered and clogged. At the moment, there is confusion in the literature between the concept of compression-distraction osteosynthesis and distraction osteogenesis. With respect to this problem, the authors analyzed the origin of compression-distraction osteosynthesis and distraction osteogenesis terms providing information on their genesis and spreading, formulated clear definitions and gave recommendations on the use of each of the terms.
